I partitioned my hard drive with an NTFS 20 Gb partition intending to install Ubunutu or FC4. I have a total of three partitions, one running Win XP Pro, another with Win XP Pro 64 and the 3rd for Linux. I down loaded (via bit torrent) iso install files for FC4 x64 and Ubuntu x64 and burned a DVD for FC4 and both a DVD and CD for Ubuntu. The problem is the HP won't boot off the Linux discs (although it will from WinXP discs). I changed the boot order to optical drive, but it doesn't work. Any ideas...?
thanks

Does it even try to boot-off from your Linux optical discs? Have you tried booting off some other PC with these discs, just to rule out media issues?

The optical drive spools up then the laptop bypasses the optical drive with the disc in it and goes to the internal hard drive. The only other computer I have at home is a Mac so I'll try to find another PC at work tomorrow. However, the discs in question were burned both on the Mac and this HP Zv6000 so I strongly suspect that not all of them are bad...thanks for trying to help

The last time I had this error was when I had a bad download. I have the ZV5000 and I have had no troubles getting it to load any of teh Linux OS's. Deffinetly try the disks on another system see if it comes up with the same error.

I used the ubuntu iso mounter to burn the CD and that one worked fine...
