Recently picked up an HP DV2020CA Laptop,
No problems installing Gentoo (2006.1)
Problems start with Audio, sound levels okay, sound works fine...
run into problems when trying to use headphones.
System ignores headphone port entirely... Headphones unpluged, sound from speakers -- Headphones pluged, Sound from speakers, no sound from headphones...
No change whether I use Alsa-drivers or Kernel drivers

Using
Kernel 2.6.17-gentoo-r7
Alsa-Lib 1.0.11-r1
Alsa-OSS 1.0.11
Alsa-Driver 1.0.12
Alsa-Headers 1.0.12
Alsa-Utils 1.0.11

Any/All Suggestions are appreciated

I recently bought an hp dv6000 and have just noticed the exact same problem. I have the latest Mandriva 2007rc1 loaded and it ignores my headphones completely. I am currently using alsa 1.0.12 and would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

went to tha alsa-projects site, browsed the bug-repository, found a patch to alsa-1.0.12/13 that adds a headphone volume dial to the mixer, still have to manually mute the system speakers though... but it is better than nothing... will edit this post to add the link when I get a few more minutes...(running to work now.)

If you could post that link i would be very greatful. I have a dv 6040us, And at the moment, the only thing holding me back from a total switch to linux is my headphones. I can easily deal with having a shortcut to turn my speakers off and turn my headphones on. So the link would be great

Thanks for posting this solution to the problem. I had the same problem with my Mandriva 2007 laptop, and installing alsa1.0.13 gave the option to disable speakers and use the headphone jack. Here is the link to the site:

On the right, there is a list of the latest packages. I installed the driver, library, and plugins, ran a provided configuration script to get the new driver configured with my hardware, then I was good to go. I just loaded up kmix (or any other mixer program) and the changes where available immedieatly.
