Default Black screen at login

Ive tried installing Ubuntu and Suse on my Asus W2V. Each will isntall succesfully but then i restart, and when the login screen should come up, the monitor just goes black and turns off. The PC is still on, and i can do Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get a command prompt. It worked when i installed ZenWalk.
I can plug another screen in, and it works ok. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Try Mepis Linux

http://www.mepis.org
http://www.mepislovers.org
http://www.mepisguides.com

If it still doesn't work in Mepis, you can edit your xorg.conf from the command prompt:

login

su to root
nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf
change
Driver "whatever"
to
Driver "radeon"
or
Driver "vesa"

You can also try this for Ubuntu or Suse

in Ubuntu

sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf
